ATKINSON MILL RACE PARK
The Mill Race Park and Campground is open year round. This park, located approximately one mile from downtown Atkinson is a 50 acre scenic retreat on the Elkhorn River and includes a 14 acre fishing lake. Non-motorized boats, including boats with trolling motors, are allowed on the lake. The campground currently has ample room for parking of 16 RVs with electricity provided at each site and a potable water hydrant located nearby. Tent spaces are available throughout the park, but campfires are only permitted in designated areas.
There are two open-air picnic shelters located within the park and picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout providing opportunities for overnight users or as a public gathering space for day-time park visitors. Recently the Atkinson Community Foundation has developed a new playground area with updated equipment for the pleasure of all.
The Bluebird Trail is a one-half mile hiking trail located on the eastern side of the park. Benches, birdhouses and adequate shade along the trail provide a unique experience for walkers, runners, hikers, and bird watchers alike.
2017 brings many new and exciting changes to the park. We currently have three vaulted toilet facilities located throughout the park, but are making plans to build a new bathroom/shower house facility by the campground. The RV sites are being re-developed and re-structured with a more permanent base, and a new disc golf course is being designed and should be up and running soon.
So if you stop by, please pardon our construction - we'll try to keep the disturbance down to a minimum!
