The Mill Race Park and Campground is open year round. This park, located approximately 1 mile from downtown Atkinson, is a 50-acre scenic retreat on the Elkhorn River and includes a 14-acre fishing lake.

Non-motorized boats, including boats with trolling motors, are allowed on the lake. The campground currently has ample room for parking of 24 RVs, trailers and campers with electricity provided at each site and a portable water hydrant located nearby. Tent spaces are available throughout the park, but campfires are only permitted in designated areas.

There are two open-air picnic shelters located within the park and picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout providing opportunities for overnight users or as a public gathering space for day-time park visitors.

Recently the Atkinson Community Foundation Fund developed a new playground area with updated equipment for the pleasure of all.

The Bluebird Trail is a 1/2-mile hiking trail located on the eastern side of the park. Benches, birdhouses and adequate shade along the trail provide a unique experience for walkers, runners, hikers and bird watchers alike.

The area also features a bathroom/shower house facility by the campground.

A dumping station is not located on site, but can be found on the west side of the Atkinson Community Center parking lot located at 206 Hwy. 20. A $3 donation is suggested.

For more information, contact the Atkinson City Office at 402-925-5313. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
