Unlicensed, Abandoned Vehicles To Be Addressed By City

The Atkinson City Council, Mayor, and Chief of Police discussed unlicensed and abandoned vehicles during the regular city council meeting on Monday, April 5.

Beginning this week, the Atkinson Police Department will identify properties within the city that are in violation of City of Atkinson Municipal Codes. This includes abandoned/junked vehicles, disassembled vehicles, and vehicles stored in an unauthorized manner. Officers also will identify unregistered cars and trucks parked in yards and driveways contrary to city ordinances.

Officers will provide those residents with violation(s) notices to abate (remove/clean up) their properties starting this week. Re-inspection will occur in the following weeks.

The City and Police Department wish to work with all property owners and do not intend to single out any individual properties. This effort is citywide, and the City hopes the collective effort results in an overall enhancement of the community.

It is the City and Police Department’s goal to gain voluntary compliance with current city ordinance, not to issue citations or remove property/vehicles at the owner’s expense.
