Reminder: ATVs, UTVs & Golf Carts Must Be Registered If Driven On City Streets

The Atkinson Police Department would like to remind the public if you wish to drive your all-terrain vehicle (ATV), utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and/or golf cart on the city streets, they need to be registered with the city office.

Please provide make, model and serial number, along with proof of liability insurance. There is an annual fee of $10.

As per city code (3-411) the vehicles must have a flag which is Day-Glo orange in color. Upon compliance with registration, the city clerk shall issue a registration sticker and the sticker must be prominently displayed upon the rear of the vehicle.

The operator must have a valid Class O operator’s license or a farm permit.

Go carts and minibikes are NOT allowed.

“The Atkinson Police Department and Atkinson City Council have been fielding complaints about the safety of small children driving golf carts,” said Atkinson Police Chief Tim Larby. “Thank you in advance for your cooperation.”
